The Rita E. & Phyllis Utterback Scholarship was established in 1979 to honor the memory and carry on the legacy of Rita E. Utterback, including her love of music, education, and her service of teaching at First Baptist Church. In 1995, the scholarship was renamed to also honor the memory of Rita's mother, Phyllis, after her passing. The scholarship's purpose is to support students pursuing undergraduate, graduate, and post-graduate degrees in Education, Music, and Christian Ministry.
In order to apply, the following criteria must be bet:
- Applicants must be high school seniors or college/university students, including graduate students, who are admitted to an accredited college or university.
- Applicants must be members of Terre Haute First Baptist Church, regular participants in the life of Terre Haute First Baptist Church who are not members, or persons recommended by a member of Terre Haute First Baptist Church.
- Applicants must be pursuing degrees in education, music, or Christian ministry.
The application window for the Rita E. & Phyllis Utterback Scholarship will open annually on April 1st and close on May 15th.
